Six people were taken to hospital after a brawl between rival football fans in Brazil on Sunday. The Brazilian football has a long history of violence and chaos was ensured once again. Local media have reported that six fans have been taken to hospital in the after the clash, with two of them in a serious condition. A footage video from the game shows several fans being viciously beaten, punched and stamped on by rival supporters, with one man seemingly left unconscious by the side of the pitch who was airlifted with the help of air ambulance. An unidentified CRB spokesman has reportedly said of one injured supporter: “The guy is in a serious state. I’m not sure if he’s going to survive.”

“I’ve been playing for 20 years and I’ve never seen anything like this in person. We will have a World Cup in our country and we know these images will be shown everywhere,” defender Luiz Alberto told reporters.

“It is a private event and the security has to be ensured by a private company hired by Atletico Paranaense. We were responsible for policing the external areas,” a spokesman for the state’s military police, Adilson Moreira, told EFE news agency.

“Unfortunately, violence and cowardice have again become the major themes of a Sunday matchday,” Corinthians said on their official Twitter account.

Coritiba also condemned the actions of fans. “Off the pitch, it has been a very sad day for all lovers of football,” the club said in a statement. “We hope that those responsible will be punished.”
