Oscar's actions sparked a mass melee just before half-time

A rather unfancied set of events happened in the Chinese Super league clash between Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou R&F last Sunday, creating a lot of headlines around the globe. And to top that, the player who was involved seems to be surprising.

After being transferred to the Chinese Super league in January 2017 for a fee around £60m, Oscar seems to have added a bit more drama in his professional life by becoming the cause of a huge fiasco at the Chinese Super league clash between Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou R&F.

All was going well in the game until the final minutes of the first half, when Oscar suddenly fired two consecutive shots at two Guangzhou players as they were closing in on Oscar. Within moments, Oscar found himself crowded by the opponent players who, infuriated by Oscar’s actions, shoved him to the ground.

As it generally goes, all 22 players got into the rut and turned the scene into huge brawl, only for the benches to join them in a few moments. When all the ruckus had finally settled, referee Gang Zhou sent off 2 players, one from each team, and showed a yellow to 3 players. Luckily for Oscar, he escaped any booking in the Chinese Super league clash.

The game finished 1-1, leaving Shanghai four points behind Chinese Super league leaders Guangzhou Evergrande.

Andres Villas-Boas, Shanghai SIPG’s coach, defended Oscar in front of the media, suggesting that there was no malicious intent in Oscar’s actions.

Oscar also came out in his defence saying that he did not purposefully twice aim the ball at the opponent players in the Chinese Super league brawl. “Disrespect the opponent? It is not true. I am a very dedicated player and respect sportsmanship,” he told the Sina Sports website.
