Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is quite frequently featured in news these days. This time he made his place into Forbes magazine as one of the highest paid athlete of India. He is ranked 89th in the list while Ronaldo is at  with a total pay of 93 million dollars. American basketball star LeBron James comes in at the second spot with USD 86.2 million, followed by Argentine footballer Lionel Messi (3) with 80 million, tennis star Roger Federer (4) with 64 million and American basketball player Kevin Durant.

Describing Kohli as the “Indian cricket phenom”, Forbes said the sports star has “for good reason” already drawn comparisons to all-time great Sachin Tendulkar.

It noted that last year Kohli made nearly USD 22 million, USD 1 million in salary and match fees from his national team play, and he’s also among the Indian Premier League’s highest-paid players thanks to a USD 2.3 million salary from the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the rest USD 22 millions from endorsements.

“The vast majority of his income, however, comes from one of the sports world’s most impressive sponsorships portfolios,” Forbes said. It is true that in India athletes make more money through sponsorship than their whole career.

28-year-old Virat Kohli who has just completed his seven years in Indian cricket team is the only Indian athlete who is ranked in Forbes list of highest paid athlete. He is on 89th place on account of the money he earned over the past twelve months. But for Indians he is the best athlete that our country possesses at present. And being listed among hundred highest paid athletes internationally is no doubt a matter of pride for all Indians.

Kohli brought many incredible changes in Indian cricket team playing strategies after becoming captain. He himself knows that Indians have put their trust in him and we know he’ll never let us down. Today he is the only Indian athlete who is ranked in Forbes list but the changing scenario of Indian sports will be able to add more of Indian athletes to the list.

In forthcoming years Kohli is supposed to earn more which means that his rank too would be improved to add glory to Indian sports.
